Gavin Bond was introduced to photography at the invitation of Vivienne Westwood while studying fashion at Saint Martins in the early 1990s. He then spent much of the 1990s photographing behind the scenes of fashion shows in London and Paris, documenting some of the most iconic names in the fashion world: Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa, Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel.

Christy Turlington, the cover star, wrote the book's introduction, while renowned photographer Philippe Garner penned the foreword.
